For the first time in probably 10 or 15 years I have bought an album. As you can probably see in the “Senaste musiken” (I should probably translate these things to english :P) feed out to the right here on the blog I have listened to it a lot. The best song is definitely “Empire State of Mind” featuring Alicia Keys. And if you don’t know it already the main artist of the album is Jay-Z. By far the coolest guy in the music industry, a true business-man (but not in a 50 cent kind of way) and is one of the most respectable men I know of.
Anyway, the record cost 90 SEK on iTunes, which is like $13 or €9. Why did I buy it and not just download it?
Well because of two things really. I hate to admit it, but honestly, one of the reasons I bought it is because of the inaccessibility of a good site to download quality in original releases. One of those sites was what.cd, but I was (unjustly) banned from that site and I haven’t had the energy to get another account or try to find another site.
Part of this being the reason is also that I’m getting lazier as I get older and get more other shit to worry about. When I switched to Mac i stopped worrying about hardware altogether, sure – a Mac costs a bit more, but you don’t have to worry about anything ever again. It’s worth the money to not have to worry and to just have everything served up for you (It’s kind of like eating at a restaurant compared to cooking at home).
Right now I’m just in a place in my life where finding a good tracker and downloading the music (like 20-30 minutes of work) is just not worth the $13 that I will save.
I think this is something very general, young people with a lot of time on their hands will always pirate – and they should! That’s how the artists get famous, that’s how stuff get around. How many good designers would we have today if every kid had to pay $4000 for Photoshop or whatever insane amount it costs?
But as people get money and less time it’s natural that they start paying for things. This is how I think it has always been and I think this is how it will always be.
The second part of me buying it is that I know Jay-Z owns his own record-company. Which means the money actually does go to him. Give me an opportunity to pay the artist and not the leeching record company and I will pay every time! And on top of that, it’s $13.. the prices of record are actually getting quite reasonable and it’s not like this is going to ruin me.
I recently stumbled across one of the coolest remixers I’ve ever seen. Colbert had an interview with Lessig about copyright law and how twistedly wrong it is. Eclectic Method made a remix of the interview with some “great dance beats” and man is it awesome!
So I checked out the rest of their stuff on their site. And they really have some great stuff over there! They seem to have some focus on VJ’ing, which if you don’t know is about mixing video aswell as sound. And they do some really cool things with it.
With sooo much TV, movies and all kinds of things that constantly influence us, it’s a totally awesome idea to use common everyday “clips” that we see all the time and give them a twist with some music and mixing.
I downloaded their “Lock Up Your Videos” video and it’s great. It has a lot of cross-genre mixing, which is one of the things i love most in music. Music shouldn’t be all Hip Hop, all Electro or anything else that you can fit into a shelf. Music should be innovative, new and exploring new grounds. Eclectic Method does this in a fantastic way. Not only with music, but with video as well!
I payed $5 for the LUYV video because that’s what I think it’s worth. But the beautiful thing is that you can download it for free if you want to. Not only do they produce new music and awesome video mixes, they use new methods of distribution and seem to have a more lenient way of looking at copyright issues.
Eclectic Method produce awesome stuff and they seem to be on the forefront of what’s happening with music and video in our society. You should totally check them out and pay them something for their music if you like it.

Det är skönt att veta att oavsett tid och plats kan man finna tröst i LOK.
Inte för att jag är på något sett ledsen eller nedstämd just nu.
Faktum är att saker och ting skulle nog inte kunna vara mycket bättre.
Jag stormtrivs i Japan och jag är obeskrivligt glad att Emma följde med.
Jag hade klarat mig själv här, men jag tror ärligt talat inte att jag hade upplevt lika mycket. Emma är den som drar in på alla bakgator och skumma, roliga ställen.
Jag hade lärt mig mer av språket ensam tror jag, av självklara skäl. Men jag hade inte fått en sån här fantastisk erfarenhet för livet utan henne.
Ibland är det dock bara extremt skönt att lyssna på LOK ändå.
LOK är koncentrerat självförtroende.
Dessutom har jag varit lite trött och.. något obeskrivligt, typ.. rastlös.
LOK botar rastlöshet, de hjälper en att fokusera och motiverar en till att följa det man vill och göra det man vill göra i livet.
Synd att de skulle splittras.
Jag har lyssnat på LOK sen slutet av nian, de har släppt 3 skivor och jag kan nästan alla låtar utantill.
Av LOK lär man sig att man ska stå på sig, att man inte ska ta skit.
Att man ska ta för sig, att egoism inte alltid är någonting dåligt.

Det var en väldigt rolig flash animation. Jag tankade låten och sen albumet och sen gick jag och lyssnade på det i flera dagar. Detta var för ungefär 3 år sedan. Jag laddade ner albumet igen idag och lyssnar igenom det medan jag skriver och det är fantastiskt bra.
Det är typ alternative/alternative rock/indie rock, något åt det hållet. Flera låtar på albumet är bara fantiskt bra. Vissa låtar är inte riktigt lika bra men:
Comfort Eagle
Opera Singer
Shadow Stabbing
och
Short Skirt/Long Jacket
är absolut underbara låtar, Short Skirt/Long Jacket berättar även vilken typ av tjej jag vill ha (jag tolkar låten som att hela idén med den där tjejen är en omöjlighet).
Skulle bara passa på att säga det, nu får ni läsa vidare på resten av bloggen om ni vill.

En applikation som loggar allt man lyssnar på och drar slutsatser om ens tycke av det.
Allt stämmer rätt bra förutom att Hip-Hop borde vara mycket mindre. Jag misstänker att den är så stor för att jag lyssnat en del på Black Eyed Peas och Fatboy slim, som den tydligen räknar till Hip-Hop.
